From 9
th to 11
th October 2024, we had the privilege of attending the
Zumtobel Light Forum in Dornbirn, Austria - an
exclusive event showcasing the future of lighting technology. Organized by
E. Kyriakides Lighting, with the careful coordination of
Tassos Zacharopoulos, the event was a masterclass in lighting innovation, which was led by
Wolfgang Preisenhammer, Zumtobel’s Excellence Content & Concept Manager.
The Event Unfolds
The event kicked off with a warm welcome by
Wolfgang Preisenhammer, setting the stage for what would be an immersive experience in the world of lighting. From the very first presentation, it was clear that Zumtobel isn’t just about lighting - they’re about transforming how we live and work through better lighting environments.
Some of the key topics we explored included:
- Light for Offices & Education: How modern lighting designs bring the benefits of natural daylight into the workspace, enhancing well-being and productivity.
- Light for Healthcare: Innovations like dynamic lighting that cater to patient rooms, operating theatres and general health areas, ensuring optimal environments for healing.
- Light for Residential: Creating a comfortable, personalized atmosphere in homes, enhancing the well-being of residents while providing energy-efficient solutions that adapt to their lifestyle
- Retail & Object Lighting: The significance of light quality, such as CRI and Ra, and how Zumtobel’s product systems are revolutionizing retail spaces.
- Light for Outdoor Places: Enhancing the architectural beauty of spaces while ensuring safety and sustainability and transforming urban landscapes and outdoor environments.
- The factory tour allowed us to see the craftsmanship behind Zumtobel’s standard and custom-made products, demonstrating the dedication to quality and innovation that defines their approach.
A Deeper Dive into Technology
One of the highlights was witnessing Zumtobel's
tunable White technology in action, a game-changer for lighting control that adjusts color temperature and intensity to mimic natural light throughout the day. Additionally, the photometric lab demonstration, led by
Dejan Simic, gave a deeper understanding of how precise light distribution is measured and optimized.
Connections and Insights
Beyond the impressive technology, what truly made this event special were the personal connections we formed.
Edvart Plut and
Peter Fajfar were key contributors to the event and later in the evenings, together will all attendees, they made time for more informal moments, where we shared drinks and discussed lighting, life and everything in between.
Our Takeaways
This experience reaffirmed our belief that lighting it’s about creating spaces that enhance well-being, productivity and sustainability. From healthcare environments that promote healing to retail spaces that enhance customer experiences, lighting can transform the way we interact with our surroundings. The technologies and strategies we experienced at this forum will undoubtedly play a role in how we approach future projects.
The event also gave us some time to explore the beautiful town of
Dornbirn, adding a cultural layer to this already enriching experience.
Final Thoughts
A big thank you to
Zumtobel, especially
Wolfgang Preisenhammer,
Edvart Plut and
Peter Fajfar, for hosting such a meaningful event. And of course, to
Tassos Zacharopoulos from
E. Kyriakides Lighting for making it all possible.
